Why Gothenburg works for conferences

Gothenburg is the conference that gets approved without a discussion. Three hours by train, no flights to book, no travel day lost at either end, and a cost that makes it easy to justify against anywhere abroad. What it gives back is capacity – Svenska Mässan and Gothia Towers handle groups in the hundreds, which very few Swedish cities can – plus an archipelago and a food scene that give the evenings somewhere to go. The obvious choice when the meeting matters more than the destination.

Stay & venues

Hotels and meeting venues in Gothenburg

Gothia Towers is the reason Gothenburg takes groups other Swedish cities cannot – it is attached to Svenska Mässan, so the conference capacity is effectively unlimited and nobody leaves the building between the session and the room. Clarion Hotel Post is the alternative with more character, a converted 1920s post office on Drottningtorget with the central station across the square. Radisson Blu Scandinavia sits nearby with a similar setup. All three put the group within walking distance of Avenyn and the harbour.

Activities

Activities and dinners in Gothenburg

The southern archipelago is twenty minutes from the centre by ferry and completely changes the day – car-free islands, bathing rocks and a lunch that tastes of the west coast. An oyster safari up in Bohuslän has the group pulling them out of the water and eating them on the boat, which sounds niche and consistently works. In town, a food walk through Saluhallen and the fish market gives the city in two hours. Liseberg is next door to Gothia Towers when the evening should be less formal.

FAQ

FAQ

What's included in a Way trip?

We handle the whole thing: travel, accommodation, meeting venue, activities, transfers and project management, with on-site support during the trip.

What does a conference in Gothenburg cost?

Prices start at around SEK 7,500 per person and depend on group size, accommodation, season and how much programme you want. A one-night setup costs considerably less.

How do you get to Gothenburg?

Three hours by train from Stockholm, straight into the centre and a short walk to most hotels. Flying takes an hour but adds transfers at both ends, so the train usually wins on total time as well as on cost.

How large a group does Gothenburg take?

Gothenburg handles the largest groups in Sweden. Svenska Mässan and Gothia Towers are built for congresses, so the constraint is usually the budget rather than the room.

When is the best time for a conference in Gothenburg?

May to September, when the archipelago and the outdoor programme are at their best. The city works year round for a meeting-focused trip, and rates are lower outside the summer.
